all <\/em>are sacred?<\/p>\nI. <\/h2>\n
Bear with me, reader.
This can\u2019t be told in a few words.<\/p>\n
Five months now I\u2019ve been
in a monthly Dream Group on Zoom,
four of us from different parts of the U.S.
taking turns presenting dreams
after which we spend an hour offering
our insights, intuitions and questions.<\/p>\n
II. <\/h2>\n
This month it was my turn.
Here\u2019s my dream:
I\u2019m in a dark motel room
with my wife and a friend.
No clue where we are
or where we\u2019re going.<\/em><\/p>\nSuddenly, the room enlarges
to include, without a separating wall,
the motel office and an Indian manager\u2014
a heavy-set man with a bushy mustache\u2014
sitting in a chair beside his desk.
The motel office is lit
and its walls are orange wood.
Between his chair and where \u201cour room\u201d starts
is a strip of wall on which
three rifles are mounted vertically.<\/em><\/p>\nI look at the Manager and ask,
\u201cWhy do you have guns on the wall?\u201d
He looks at me as if to say,
\u201cGuns?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nand when I look again
I see not rifles but musical instruments:
a mandolin with inlaid wood,
a viola and a violin.<\/em><\/p>\nIII. <\/h2>\n
In part of the ensuing discussion
the members of our group ask me questions.
One asks, \u201cWhat role has India played in your life?\u201d
I answer succinctly and honestly.
\u201cMother India\u201d and her Sages have played a huge role<\/em>.*<\/p>\nAs we amplify the dream\u2014
a bit like a weaving a quilt together\u2014
it gradually becomes clear
that with his glance,
this \u201chumble Indian motel manager\u201d
has transformed in my perception of
the aggression represented by the rifles
into the androgynous beauty<\/em> of the instruments.<\/p>\nThis has been
the story of my life.
And everyone in the group
seems to get that.<\/p>\n
IV. <\/h2>\n
All the details of the dream
reinforce its theme.
The manager is wearing a plaid shirt.
One companion remarks,
\u201cPlaid has a blend of colours.
That\u2019s what plaid is!\u201d
I say, \u201cIt reminds me of the madras
we used to wear in high school.
\u201cMade in India,\u201d a member chimes in.<\/p>\n
And our dark motel room?
\u201cOn the Path, dark night of the soul,\u201d
but with dear and trusted companions.<\/p>\n
One member looks in her Dream Dictionary:
\u201cThe number two represents conflict, duality.
Three represents resolution.\u201d
Interesting, at the very least.<\/p>\n
V. <\/h2>\n
I had a thrilling mystical dream not long ago.
In these group sessions our dreams,
unwrapped by persistent, loving focus,
all <\/em>seem by the end of the hour
to have been \u201cveiled mystical dreams.\u201d<\/p>\nI come away each month feeling
every dream is now mine<\/em>\u2014
